According to Macquarie Securities, Instagram has globally become the second-most-popular app after Facebook. It was the most-downloaded social app in July across the 10 largest markets the company tracks.  In a study of six participants aged 17-28, all are now actively using Instagram, however none used the platform a year ago. The study found that Facebook still plays a large role in its surge in popularity, mostly because it aggregates user's social connections in one place.

 

Furthermore, nearly all participants said that they expect to use Facebook less six months from now versus today.
